What students are saying
EVERY TUESDAY AFTERNOON. Area One has Discovery Time. Brenda comes in to help Miss Cocker. We get to do HEAPS of fun stuff. The best part is that we get to choose our activity.
The hardest part is that the adults are there to help, but they don’t solve our problems and we have to think about how to ‘fix’ it ourselves. We have learnt that sometimes we have to make mistakes so we can learn from them!
Fruit kebabs are yum, but we had to think and plan before we made them.
We brought the fruit and we needed a chopping board, a plate, a knife and kebab sticks. We had to work out what size to cut the fruit so it wouldn’t fall off. We had to make sure there was enough for everyone.
We learnt that sometimes you have to try and try again before you can achieve it.
At the end of Discovery Time we have a chat, we talk about: What we have made. What we have learnt. What worked or what we need to change for next time. We all LOVE Discovery Time!
-This is just part of a power point that Area One at Randwick made to share in school assembly
Discovery Time is fun because we get to choose activities without asking.

You can make something and explain it to the whole class.
-Sia
I’ve learned how to co-operate, how to share things and how to challenge myself.
-Harmony
Today in Discovery Time we could make lettuce, tomato and feta sandwiches. I hadn’t ever tasted feta cheese before in my whole life, but now I have.
-Hemi
Today at Discovery Time I was doing the marble track game. I learned that if you co-operate you can build one big thing.
