Great videos fronted by teacher Kate Bodger that describe how her team went about setting up play-based learning. She explores some of the challenges for teachers and the benefits they have seen for student learning.
“Our team’s approach to teaching and learning is always collaborative and it’s always student centered. So we base all of our planning on the children’s impulses and act on what they are showing interest in. And then we get together and use our strengths to come up with the best plan to follow their interests.”
“We sit down with them (the students) every couple of weeks and have a big google doc, a list of the things that they want to have available for them to play with. So they are always putting input into what sort of things are out.”
“It’s really important to have some kind of idea of what the children are doing each day and how they are progressing and if they are taking risks with their learning or if they are going back to the same sort of things each time.”
“Then they have reflection on what they’ve learnt today or what they can try and do better tomorrow.”
